36 Week Course
The 36 week Associate Diploma course covers every aspect of hairdressing that is required to be both commercially viable and truly successful in your chosen career.
This course includes:
- styling of long and short hair
- blow waving
- setting
- scissor and razor cutting (conditions apply)
- colouring (including advanced techniques)
- permanent waving
- mens styling
- product knowledge and sales
- telephone manner and reception area operations
- development in communications, self-marketing and professional skills
- creating a photographic portfolio

The 36 week Associate Diploma covers all the NZQA Hairdressing Unit Standards to level 4 (intermediate level), in addition Ruben Blades has incorporated Generic Unit Standards. A major emphasis is placed on commercial aspects ie. cutting, colouring, client communication. Most students achieve National Certificate in Hairdressing Salon Support when doing the 36 week course.
By providing you with an opportunity to gain 43 units towards National Certificate on the NZQA unit standards framework, you will have the perfect base in which to enter the hairdressing industry. You will be in a position to work in either a salon, the television industry, the film industry or perhaps own your own salon.
Ruben Blades has a policy of providing 1 Tutor to 7 students (maximum). This allows for maximum individual attention and input from our highly skilled education staff.
Ruben Blades teaching staff are all fully qualified in the hairdressing industry, with a minimum of 10 years experience. Also Senior Stylists will be a part of the Education Team, specialising mainly in demonstrations, providing a fashion and individual aspect to the training.
Gaining the 36 week Associate Diploma
To be successful in gaining the Associate Diploma, students are required to have a minimum attendance rate of 85%. Excellence and Honours Diplomas are also available.
